The A - Z of Me 2022 Edition

The A-Z of Me

*Updated April 2022

As I thoroughly enjoy making lists, I thought this would be a fun and quirky way for you all to get to know me a bit better. I will go through the alphabet and for each letter, I will choose up to 5 words, beginning with that specific letter. This will include anything and everything I can think of!

Accessibility, Ami, Amusements, Ataxia & Avengers

Accessibility is something I’m really passionate about, especially regarding events and online. Ami is my name, obviously. When I was younger, you could always find me at an amusement arcade, especially the 2p machines… actually, you probably will still find me there! I was diagnosed with Ataxia (Sensory) in 2018. I LOVE the Avengers – It was the first superhero film that made me fall in love with superheroes… and Loki.

Baffled, Baked Beans, Blogging, Blunt & Butterflies

It doesn’t take a lot to baffle me. love baked beans, beans on toast, jacket potato and beans, they are very yummy! I have been blogging for over 3 years and absolutely love it. People who know me really well would say I am blunt and straight to the point. Butterflies are very special to me – not only do they represent growth, but they are my lucky charm too.

Central Vision Loss, Chatty, Comic Con, Concerts & Cornflakes

I’ve had central vision loss since March 2017, it happened overnight with no warning. I heavily rely on my peripheral (side) vision and can’t make out objects or people at a distance.

When you get to know me, I can talk for England! I attended my first Comic Con in October 2021 and I am obsessed! They are officially my second home and definitely somewhere I feel like I belong.During my childhood, I was fortunate to be able to attend 4 – 6 concerts a year, mainly Westlife, Boyzone, McFly, etc. I’m addicted to Cornflakes, that’s it, that’s the statement.

Daisy & Dogs

Daisy is my daughter – she will fool you and have you wrapped around her little finger, don’t let her cuteness deceive you! I have 2 dogs, Max & Molly, both Border Terrier cross Jack Russell – Max is more Border Terrier and Molly is more Jack Russell.

Ewan

Ewan is my husband, my best friend, my everything. I’m really grateful for him sticking by me and supporting me through everything since we’ve been together.

Fizzy-Free & Fundraising

I was addicted to fizzy drinks for as long as I can remember, I have been fizzy-free for almost 4 years now! I love fundraising and attending fundraisers, I love the atmosphere and they are so much fun!

Green, Gullible & Gamechanger

Green has become my favourite colour, especially emerald green. I am 100% gullible. I received the Gamechanger Award from Scope, my first ever award and I’m still convinced they got the wrong person!

Ami is smiling, while holding her Disability Gamechanger Award and certificate from Scope.

Happy Colour, Hearing Loss, Hopeful & Hungry

Happy Colour (a colour by numbers app) is my favourite app and I spent most of 2020 playing it as it was, and still is, a very good distraction and helps me to stay calm. I gradually lost my hearing towards the end of 2016 and I’d say this is the one thing that’s hit me hard the most and struggled to adapt to.

I had always thought negatively about the future but now I am very hopeful and looking forward to seeing what happens next. I get hungry very quickly, especially after waking up from a nap.

Ice Cream & Irish

Love ice cream! Especially vanilla. I have a soft spot for an Irish accent

Jokes

I love jokes, I am the sort of person to remember them in inappropriate situations and burst out laughing. I also create jokes and often end up laughing about them for hours. Someone has to laugh at them, right?

Kind & Kung-Fu Panda

Everybody says I am kind, I like to think I am too! Kung-Fu Panda, don’t even get me started on that film. I will never watch it again. That scene when he broke a floorboard – yeah, I jumped out of my seat… in a packed-out cinema. I couldn’t tell if everyone was laughing at me or at the scene!

lABLEd Podcast, Leggings, Lists & Loki

I’m the social media assistant for lABLEd Podcast, I’m essentially a gold nugget miner that repurposes content from each episode and promotes across their platforms, and I ensure that all social media content is accessible.

I stock up on leggings, I buy 5 pairs each time I go to Primark, which can be every few months. So, it may look like I am always wearing 1 pair but I do have loads of other pairs. I have always had an obsession with making lists – from an early age, each time a new Argos catalogue came out, I made a list of what I wanted and had no intention of buying them, ha! Unless it was for Christmas then I would be sure to make note of the catalogue number and the page number so my parents wouldn’t miss it.

I adore the God of mischief, Loki, totally not because he is played by Tom Hiddleston… but he is a mesmerising character and his storyline evolving over the years has been captivating, emotional, and thrilling rollercoaster ride.

Marvel, Mature & Motivated

Marvel is my favourite franchise, who would have guessed? From an early age, people used to tell me that I was ‘too mature for my age’. I am 100% motivated to make the best out of what I can do and make the best out of what I’ve got… just don’t ask me if I’m feeling peppy on a bad day.

Nephews, Nieces & Notebooks

In total, Ewan and I have 12 nephews and nieces – Christmas is getting expensive! I have come to the conclusion that I may have an obsession with notebooks, I currently have about 20…

Orange Juice

Orange juice is what helps start my day.

Passionate, Patient, Powerchair User & PTSD

No matter what I do, I give it my all and put my heart into it. I’ve always been a very patient person until I got married and had a baby. I use a powerchair so they can see me rollin’, and I’ve named her Sylvie.

Ami using her new black powerchair, Sylvie. She's at the park with Ewan and Daisy.

Where do I even begin with PTSD? I’ve suspected I have had it since I was 13 or 14, but more so since I was in ICU for a month battling double pneumonia, I’ve seen and experienced too many things during that time that has left me with complex PTSD.

Questions

Whatever way you look at it, I’m either a very curious person or I still am the annoying little kid that always asks, “Yeah, but why?”

Ridiculous, Romantic & Raising Awareness

Thanks to my hearing loss, I end up mishearing most things and as a result, come out with the most ridiculous things that I’ve genuinely thought the other person has said. Deep down, I am a hopeless romantic and a sucker for romance stories. I’m absolutely driven to raise awareness, and I will continue to do so for as long as I live!

Sarcastic, Sims, Socks, Stationery & Superheroes

I am sarcastic, and love a bit of banter – I think that is the base of mine and Ewan’s relationship.

From a very young age, I used to spend hours upon hours playing The Sims, I won’t lie, I did get very attached to some characters, watching them evolve throughout generations was enjoyable but heartbreaking when they died. I really miss playing but it’s not accessible for me with my dexterity, vision loss and overwhelm.

I have an obsession with socks, not plain ones but pretty, novelty and character socks. If ever you see me in Primark, you will find me in the socks section as this is my #1 place to go to first! I love stationery if you hadn’t noticed from my stationery reviews. Also, as you probably have gathered by now, I am obsessed with superheroes!

Tattoo, Toast, Tom Hiddleston, Transverse Myelitis & Twitter

I have 1 tattoo, a butterfly on my wrist, which initially represented my battle with Anorexia, but as more events have unfolded throughout the years, I look at it to remind me that no matter what, I will come out the other side stronger. Toast, I love toast, it has to be soft and fluffy, and a slight bit of butter still melting while eating it, YUM!

Speaking of yummy, I LOVE Tom Hiddleston, he is an extraordinary actor and his handsome looks are a bonus too! And I met him for like 5 seconds!

Photo op of Ami with Tom Hiddleston

I’ve had Transverse Myelitis since 2018 (although I suspect it started in September 2017), it’s where my spinal cord became inflamed and affected my cervical (neck) and thoracic (upper body) area which, with Ataxia affecting all four limbs, led to paralysis until I started improving with intensive physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Twitter is my go-to social media platform.

Undercover Superhero, Understanding & Underwear

Undercover Superhero is the name of my blog and I really don’t know where I would be today without it! I am a very understanding person. Like socks, I love pretty, novelty and character underwear.

Vans & Video Games

Vans are my favourite brand of shoes, I have 1 pair, for now. I did have a stunning pair of pale gold Vans to wear for the wedding, which I’ve now given to Marie because those shoes deserve to be danced in and I know she will dance to her heart’s content in them. I used to love playing LEGO games, the first LEGO game I fell in love with was LEGO Batman and I made sure to get all the achievements and 100%!

WAV, Westlife, Writing & Witty

I have a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) that enables me to get out and about in my powerchair, my WAV has two nicknames – Quicksilver and Silver Lining.

Ami is sitting in her wheelchair with both thumbs up, infront of her new WAV

I have been a huge fan of Westlife since the age of 4 and it does break my heart that I can no longer hear their music. I was always told that my writing was terrible and it always had the same ending – it really is overwhelming that I now receive so much positive feedback about my writing, thank you all so much!

I like to think I’m witty, I am known for a few wise cracks here and there.

XBOX

The XBOX was the first-ever console I’d actually bought myself; I was absolutely devastated when it stopped working, but I had a blast playing various games on it.

Yellow & Youngest

I have always disliked the colour yellow. I am the youngest, I have 3 older sisters.

Zelda

I loved Zelda, it was my all-time favourite game on the Nintendo 64, especially Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.

Have you completed an A-Z list of things that are relevant to you? I’d love to read them!

  3. Fast forwarding to 2020 – loved your upbeat alphabetic list of ‘All About You’. It was quite refreshing – so down-to-earth – such a positive attitude. Thanks for sharing bits and pieces of your life. 🙂

  5. This is a great post Ami, really interesting. I feel it’s a good way to know you. Do you mind if I do a similar post? I’ll link to your bog. I’m working on a Disability A-Z post series.

  6. I found your A to Z challenge very interesting and well done to finding something for each letter. Not something I think I would be able to do for a post, if I was to do something like this.

    1. Yes! Go team Cornflakes! They’re a lot easier to put on, especially with my shit dexterity and grip. Plus cheap and cheerful 🙂

    1. I don’t moderate comments from anyone who has already left a comment, don’t worry you’ve not gone to the spam dungeon 🙂

  7. Great idea. I thought I might try something similar and then I read your post… And i wonder what on earth I have to write about. Great attitude and brilliant post.

    1. Thanks Cathy 🙂 When you look at it as a whole, it can seem like a lot, but if you do a few letters when you think of something then you’ll have a full list eventually 🙂

    1. I can’t remember where I first saw an A – Z post about someone but I loved it and have been updating it for a few years now. Looking forward to reading yours 🙂
