You may, or may not, notice that something is different around here… well, I went self-hosted on Monday 23rd August!
I’ve not had time to make all the tweaks I need to yet but this is why I’m taking a break throughout September. This will give me time to do some major work behind the scenes. Plus, I need to catch up with reading blogs, I have well over 100 in my inbox and want to take my time with them.
I have been debating whether or not to go self-hosted for such a long time now and, especially with Lyrical Host, they have made it so easy to do this and have helped me every step of the way so far. They are beyond fantastic!
I like WordPress but I felt very restricted in terms of customisation and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get my blog to show my personality, to show me. I want readers to look at my blog and go, “Yeah, that’s very Ami” and I could never feel that originally.
I’ve been thinking of what I want to do with regards to my blog and I’ve decided on quite a few things…
Disability
I realised something a while back and, to be honest with you, I feel like a fraud. I am very passionate about raising awareness and yet, I can’t remember the last time I raised awareness of any of my conditions on my blog and I felt very guilty because of this.
So, this is why I decided that I want to have a ‘Disability’section on my blog, where I can raise awareness, and anything else about disability like, what helps me, what aids I use, how I cope, etc.
Parenting
Never thought I would have a Parenting section on my blog but this is something else I want to focus on. Don’t worry, I won’t be offering any unsolicited advice because I HATE unsolicited advice, especially when it is to do with parenting. I haven’t specified what sub-topics I want to talk about yet but I will decide during my break.
Reviews
Did you see my recent review of The Stationery Society Subscription Box? I was very fortunate to review their first box and I absolutely LOVED reviewing these amazing products. I would love to review more products on my blog, especially items relating to disability (household aids, adaptive clothing, mobility aid attachments, etc), parenting (any products that can help me become more independent with Daisy, baby/toddler products, etc), and any items to do with stationery, superheroes, Marvel and Loki… obviously!
The Reality of… Series
This series is an integral part of my blog, it has now featured 65 incredible people who raise awareness of their conditions and I want it to be easily accessible from my homepage. I have an additional announcement to make about the series, which I will discuss more in my August Round-Up, so if you have already featured in the series, or would like to feature in the future, then please keep an eye out for my announcement.
My Recovery
I remember when I began writing My Recovery Story, how I wrote 13 chapters in the space of a fortnight I don’t know, but I covered a big chunk throughout them and I remember the last chapter I had finished and then published, I came to a standstill. Yes, it was cathartic but I needed to give myself a break from writing about what happened.
I didn’t expect to leave it for nearly 2 years though so I will be going back to it, and writing more chapters. There is definitely no way that I will be able to publish a chapter a day like I did, so I will take my time with it.
Blog
Albeit I want to make my blog more specific, I still want a section where I can rant, rave, join in with tags (if I get tagged), along with my infamous monthly round-ups. The WordPress community means a lot to me and I want you to know that even though I’m branching out, I will still be here within the community, still reading and commenting.
Would love to know your opinions!
