Bloganuary Day 3

Write About The Last Time You Left Your Comfort Zone

What, my bed? Well, this morning…

Ohhh… you mean my inner comfort zone?

The first thing that comes to mind is when I did my wedding speech. I’ve always hated speaking in front of people, well more frightened than anything.

But when I had a tracheostomy while in ICU, nobody knew if I would be able to speak properly again. When I start talking, I talk… a lot. So when I was faced with the possibility of not talking again, obviously I couldn’t say a lot back then, but it scared me.

I wanted to do something really special at our wedding, and I had a brilliant idea if I do say so myself. You’ll see what it was if you read my wedding speech (it is clickable, it’s just not showing in a different colour to say it’s a link), and before you wonder, of course, it’s Marvel-related!

Ewan made a joke out of how many pages I was holding, but I did explain that there were more because I needed it to be in large font so people could still see my face while I spoke. I wouldn’t have wanted to constantly look down while reading, or have the pages right in front of my face.

It just seemed rude if I did.

I did mention in the speech about the year before and the possibility of not speaking again, and that it felt very surreal to be talking clearly that day.

Almost everybody cried.

I’ve never been one to be comfortable at doing a lot of things, and my wedding speech really did test my limits. But I’m glad I did it and I would do it again.

You know, it’s okay to break free of your comfort zone, because otherwise, you’ll never know any different. And life gets pretty boring if it’s always the same.

When was the last time you left your comfort zone?
