April 2022 Round Up

Born To Hand Jive Baby… Popped In For A Loin Or Pork Chop Maybe?

You will never believe in a million years who popped into my local Morrison’s! If you’re on my mailing list, then you’ll already know as I told you 2 weeks ago or you might have seen it on the news, but I still can’t get my head around it! I’m a little gutted we weren’t shopping at the same time, but to be fair, I wouldn’t have recognised him.

Here are some clues (puns that people came out with),, see if you can guess who the man that left everybody starstruck was…

  • He might have popped in for some tablets for his Saturday Night Fever
  • Maybe he got chills down the freezer aisle?
  • Or was he getting some Hairspray? (This was irrelevant as he’s now bald)

Guessed who it was?

Kerry and John Travolta

Only John bloody Travolta!

Kerry, the lovely lady on the left, and Daisy’s unofficial Godmother, was absolutely beside herself, I’ve not seen her since so I don’t know if she’s fully recovered, bless her! She did get a cuddle off him, and then he asked her if she could show him where the shortbread biscuits were.

He was nearby filming for something, I don’t know what, but yeah… that definitely got the town talking!

Has there been someone famous visiting your local town?

Superheroes Assemble!

Me and Ewan are doing the Superhero Tri this year! It’ll be so good to be back there, I can’t wait! Ewan will be doing the swimming part, then we’ll use an adapted bike for the cycle part, then depending on what energy I have I will hopefully walk, not the entire length, but in chunks, but I am determined to walk across the finish line again!

Update on Assessing Venues

I mentioned in my March Round Up that I’d hope to be able to assess venues for the Scope Awards. Unfortunately, we weren’t given much notice and with both Ewan and Mum working, plus we would have Daisy with us, it just wasn’t doable. Gutted.

Business Account

Oooooh, I now have a PayPal Business account. You might be thinking, “Why are you telling me this, Ami?” it’s a BIG step for me! Now I just need to set up invoices.

Freebie!

I finally got round to finishing a little freebie! BUT I do have a confession to make… I forgot to check if PDFs that were created from Canva are accessible. Unfortunately, they’re not and for that I am sorry. You know I’m passionate about accessibility so messing this up makes me feel like a fraud, I really am sorry.

I am working on creating an accessible version and it’ll be uploaded to my resources (also a work in progress) when it’s finished. The freebie is a 5-page Medical Planner which includes: Personal Details, Medical History, Medication, Symptom Tracker, and Doctor’s Appointments so you can keep track of everything.

Note: You can print it off or download it and use it straight away!

Free 5 Page Medical Planner. Grab yours today!

I also want to mention that this is a fraction of the entire product, the full version is 31 pages. It includes so much more but I’m working on making it fillable so you don’t need to print it off. It would be ready but I can’t decide on a design for the front cover – so indecisive!

What do you think? I am new to the digital product/printable world, I can certainly see why people do well with it. I love finding new designs and fonts, my OneDrive is slowly building up a collection.

Are My Needs Too Complex?

The day after finding out Canva’s end products are inaccessible, I had a virtual meeting like I have been doing since December for the co-production group for the Scope Awards. I think having faced issues already from the day before left me feeling frustrated and during the meeting, I needed to read the captions on the screen – Chrome makes a light black/grey box appear when it detects sound so it can transcribe.

Constantly having to read from left to right at a normal speed is bloody exhausting. It gives me a headache, it makes me tired, and it even makes me feel like I’m too difficult to accommodate. It’s really horrible feeling like that.

It’s made me feel excluded and like there’s nothing else to try. Virtual meetings and online courses with videos often leave me in tears because my brain can’t process all 3 things at once – watching what is happening, reading what is happening, and actually trying to understand and process what is happening.

I’m tired and frustrated with the after-effects, it’s so draining and makes me feel like I don’t want to bother with it anymore, it’s horrible. I don’t know what to do.

Burnout

It’s been really difficult to admit but I’ve been suffering from burnout. I’ve mentioned a couple of times about us having a financial blip, and unfortunately, it’s gotten worse. I can’t keep working for free, it’s just impossible, especially with everything I do.

What’s Happening In May?

I’m going to take a step back from creating content every week, it’s not right for me at the moment so I will be posting sporadically for a little while just until we get sorted out. I’m not even on social media much right now.

But I am keeping to my fortnightly emails with my mailing list, so if you’d like to keep up to date with me then you can sign up to my mailing list (click the medical planner graphic and it will take you to the landing page to sign up) or you can send me an email to ami@undercoversuperhero.com and we’ll have a good natter.

As I type this, it’s looking more and more likely that we won’t be going to Comic Con at the end of May as there’s no-one there that I like or heard of. Gutted but hopefully the October one will be good. I’m probably due for my fourth jab in May but haven’t heard anything yet.

There are 2 or 3 posts scheduled throughout May, but like I said above there’ll be quiet periods because I need to focus on finding paid work for now.
