Can you believe it’s been 3 months already since I went self-hosted with Lyrical Host? I can’t, it’s gone so quick!
I started blogging in October 2018, a month before I was discharged from a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre, wanting to document my 9-month hospital stay and ongoing recovery. At the time, that’s all I wanted to do.
I had no idea that my blog could become so much more, the opportunities it could lead me to. The friends I’d make, and the experiences I’ve had shared with hundreds of people. It’s evolved into something very special.
Up until a few months ago, I came to a standstill as I had so many ideas for what I wanted to do with my blog, but I felt limited in what I could do with what I already had. I always try to adapt to what I have as much as possible, but when you find something special, something affordable and attainable… it’s hard to pass up on, isn’t it?
I’d seen Lyrical Hosts’ name pop up quite a lot, and I had been wanting to go self-hosted for quite some time but I was scared as I have no technical knowledge whatsoever, and truth be told, I thought I would be too much of a beginner and be a burden on them, constantly asking how to do this and how to do that.
But, I put my big girl pants on and reached out to Jenni, the founder of Lyrical Host, and right from the get-go, it felt like I was chatting with a friend – she got to know me, what I wanted to achieve and helped me figure out which hosting plan would be best for me.
Honestly, I could probably write an entire review about Jenni… but without the discount, obviously!

The Mighty plan is £21.99 and the Boss plan is £29.99 – All 3 plans have the same features, but if you choose a higher plan, you’ll get more GB and space.
I call the Tiny plan a Mary Poppins bag because everything is in there but the kitchen sink!
Free Migration
If you are like me and have no idea how to migrate to Lyrical Host, don’t worry! Not only do they do it for free, but they update you every step of the way. On the day that your blog/website is scheduled for migration, one of the lovely members from Lyrical Hosts’ tech support will contact you to confirm that migration will go ahead.
After a few other details are checked, the migration will begin – the time it takes for your migration to be complete can vary, for example, my blog took a few hours for everything to transfer. BUT, my site wasn’t live with them until I had reviewed everything and made any changes (if needed).
Note: Once your site is live on their system, they recommend you to wait for 24-48 hours (preferably the latter) before helping you transfer your followers.
So, my site wasn’t live with Lyrical Host until the following day because I was having trouble deciding which widgets and plugins to use, plus I wanted to have a bit more time exploring all the new features. Realistically, it would have been done in 3-4 hours.
There was a couple of days where I was worried that readers couldn’t see my posts from the WP Reader. But after speaking with their tech support and explaining to me how the WordPress.com Reader is designed for WordPress.com sites, if you have JetPack installed and connected to your WP account, your site will still appear in the WP Reader.
Also, it’s normal for it to take up to 24 hours for a new post to appear in the WP Reader.
Note: If you blog daily, I’d suggest making your readers aware in advance that you will be going self-hosted and that your posts may not appear in the WP Reader. This will give them the option to change their notifications (for example, receive email notifications) so that they don’t miss out on your posts.
No Increased Pricing On Renewals
Lyrical Host offer premium managed hosting for very affordable prices. One thing I noticed when comparing hosting platforms was the increased prices upon renewal and there was no way I could afford that. When I read about the Tiny plan and saw that the price would always stay the same, I was relieved!
Tech Support Team
I never knew superheroes could come in the form of tech support – but they really do! They all know what they’re doing and always reassure you that they are happy to help, which always puts a smile on my face because I always feel like a burden when I ask for help or need something explained simply.
Personal support
We’re proud to know our customers personally and help out wherever we can, whether it’s recommending a theme or celebrating a win.

As I said earlier in this post, Jenni got to know me on a personal level and she is very proactive in responding to customers. I know this is bias but I’ve never come across a more supportive and lovely company.
Especially in their Facebook Group, everyone is amazing and wants to help each other. If there were more people like those in the FB group, the world would be a better place.
